The eGov Foundation, in collaboration with various stakeholders, has recently launched the transformative 10BedICU Projects in Assam. This initiative aims to enhance critical care infrastructure across the state, ensuring access to essential healthcare services, even in remote regions.
Introducing 10BedICU Wards
The eGov Foundation has introduced 23 transformative 10BedICU Projects in Assam, establishing 10-bed ICU wards in government hospitals across 23 districts. This initiative results in a total of 365 ICU beds throughout the state. By enhancing critical care infrastructure, the project aims to provide timely and quality care to patients requiring intensive care services.
TeleICU Hubs for Advanced Care
To further augment critical care services, three TeleICU Hubs will be established in prestigious medical institutions. These hubs will be located at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), and Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh (AMCH). Leveraging advanced technology, the TeleICU Hubs will enable remote monitoring of patients in ICUs. This innovative approach will provide medical professionals with timely guidance and support, improving patient outcomes.
Public-Private Partnership (PPP)
The 10BedICU Project stands as a remarkable example of a public-private partnership (PPP) between the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Assam, eGovernments Foundation, and Karuna Trust. The primary objective of this collaboration is to ensure critical care services are accessible to every district, including the most remote regions of the state. By adopting a ‘hub and spoke’ model, the National Emergency Life Support Skill Centre at GMCH will empower field hospitals with critical care capabilities. This model facilitates efficient and prompt healthcare delivery in remote areas.
Enhanced Management and Coordination
The Asset Management Portal will play a crucial role in this project. It enables real-time data monitoring, integrated with the CM dashboard, facilitating effective management and coordination of healthcare resources across the state. This digital infrastructure ensures optimal utilization of critical care equipment and resources.
Empowering Healthcare Professionals
The 10BedICU Projects not only aim to revamp the healthcare infrastructure but also prioritize the capacity empowerment of healthcare professionals. Training programs will be organized for nurses and other medical staff, equipping them with the necessary skills to provide quality critical care. This holistic approach ensures that the healthcare system is fortified with competent professionals who can deliver efficient and compassionate care.
The Journey of the 10BedICU Program
- The 10BedICU project was initiated in March 2021 in response to the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India. Initially conceived as a response to the crisis, the project has rapidly expanded over the last 24 months. Over 200 10BedICUs have already been established in various states, including Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Puducherry.
- The launch of the 10BedICU Projects in Assam marks a significant milestone in the state’s healthcare delivery system. By ensuring improved access to critical care treatments, the initiative aims to save lives and improve health outcomes for the people of Assam.
