Third Japan-India Maritime Exercise JIMEX-18 Begins

The third edition of the Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX), JIMEX-2018, kicked off in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The purpose of JIMEX-18 is to enhance interoperability, improve understanding, and imbibe the best practices from each participating nation. Taking place five years after the last installment of JIMEX in Chennai during December 2013, the revival of the exercise signifies a strengthening of Indo-Japanese defence relations. Both governments continue their joint efforts to ensure the safety and security of global commons in harmony with the ‘rule based order’.

Japan-India Maritime Exercise

JIMEX is a collaborative venture between India and Japan aiming to enhance their maritime cooperation. These exercises are primarily designed to improve interoperability, mutual understanding, and sharing of best practices between the nations’ respective navies.

This year’s edition of JIMEX marks its return after a gap of five years, indicating an upswing in the defence relations between India and Japan. The countries are working towards enhancing the safety and security of the global commons, emphasizing the importance of a ‘rule based order’.

Japan’s Participation in Other Exercises

Japan also regularly participates in the MALABAR exercise – a trilateral naval exercise involving the US and India. The latest edition, MALABAR-18, took place in Guam in the Pacific Ocean.

India Skills 2018: India’s Biggest Skill Competition

Organized by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the 2nd edition of the India Skills competition concluded recently. This nationwide event aims to identify, recognize, promote, and reward extraordinary talents across various skills.

Winners from different trades will receive additional training before being chosen to represent India at the 45th WorldSkills Competition, scheduled to take place in Kazan, Russia, in 2019. Along with the main competition, Divyangs participated in their respective contest and winners from their category will participate at the global level in ‘Abilympics’ in China.

The competition also had the active participation of Divyangs (people with disabilities). They exhibited their unique talents during the event. The winners among them will be representing India in Abilympics in China.

About Abilympics

Abilympics, short for ‘Olympics of Abilities’, are vocational skills competitions specifically designed for individuals living with disabilities. The objective of these events is to expose their unique talents and abilities to the world.
