New security mechanism for fingerprint authentication

Finger minutia refers to the ridges and valleys on the fingerprint, while finger image refers to the actual picture of the finger.
The new mechanism will help in detecting fake fingerprints that are made from materials such as clay, rubber, or gelatine. It will also detect fingerprints that are taken from dead fingers or fingers that have been cut off.
