Union Home Minister Special Operation Medal

Union Home Minister?s Special Operation Medal is awarded to security forces for conducting special operations in areas such as border control, terrorism, arms control, rescue operations and drug smuggling prevention.

Highlights

The Home Minister?s prestigious special operations medal was introduced in the year 2018. It aims to promote high professional standards for criminal investigations in the Central Investigative Agencies working in India as well as Union Territory and State police forces. Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFS), Central Police Organisations (CPOs) and other security organisations which are working across the country are also awarded.

Eligibility for the award

Police Officers of Union Territories and States, Central Police Organisations (CPOs), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and various security organisations which are involved in special operations across the country are eligible for receiving this medal.

2021 Union Home Minister?s Special Operation Medal

At least 260 employees of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) received this medal for outstanding service in an ongoing military conflict with China in eastern Ladakh. This is the highest number of medals received by one organization at a single time. In total around 390 employees from various central forces and state police have been selected for this medal. Sixteen National Investigation Agency (NIA) employees, including senior police officer Sonia Narang of the Indian Police Services (IPS), were also awarded medals earlier this year.
