Vijay Sampla: New Chairman of National Commission for SC

Vijay Sampla took charge as the chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC). He is a former Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment and ex-BJP MP. The post was vacant since May 2020.

  • Sampla said that NCSC will not only work to ensure justice to the SC community but will also work proactively to prevent injustice to the community.
  • The Commission will engage with the government for planning socio-economic development schemes for SCs and prevention of atrocities against them.
  • The post of the Chairman of NCSC was vacant since May 2020 since the term of BJP MP Ram Shankar Katheria ended.
  • The delay in filling the vacancy of the chairman and vice-chairman and members had been taken up by an NGO that moved the Supreme Court.
  • The Court then issued a notice to the Centre in January for the appointment.
  • Thus, Sampla has been appointed as the Chairman of the commission and Arun Haldar as vice-chairman.
  • Other than this, Anju Bala and Subhash Ramnath Pardhi have been appointed as members.

About Vijay Sampla

Vijay Sampla was the former MP from Hoshiarpur in Punjab and Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment from 2014-19. He was also the president of the BJP Punjab unit. He also served as Chairman, Khadi and Village Industries Board, Punjab from 2009-12 and subsequently, his name was recommended for Rashtrapati Award.
