Visva-Bharati University, Shantiniketan- Key Facts

Visva-Bharati University will start the centenary celebrations of the university on December 24. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing the centenary celebrations of the university through video conferencing. It must be noted that the Prime Minister is the chancellor of Visva-Bharati University.

West Bengal Governor and Education Minister will also be present at the event.

• Visva-Bharati University is the public central university of the country and is considered the oldest central university.
• Visva-Bharati was founded by Rabindranath Tagore in the year 1921 and it became a central university in the year 1951 by an act.
• It is located in Santiniketan, West Bengal, and also has the status of Institute of National Importance (INI).
• The university has been ranked at 69^th place in the overall category of NIRF 2020 ranking and its ranking in the universities of India is 50^th as per NIRF 2020.
• The University has been ranked 4^th among the Indian Universities in the Best Global Universities 2020 ranking by U.S. News & World Report.

Centenary Celebrations of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)

Before this, on December 22, PM Modi addressed the centenary celebrations of the Aligarh Muslim University through video conferencing. PM Modi also released a postal stamp during the event. The university was established as Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College in the year 1875 and it became Aligarh Muslim University in the year 1920. The university has been ranked in the Indian universities as per NIRF 2020. The overall ranking of AMU in NIRF 2020 is 31.
