The Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri C.R. Patil, recently launched the Web-based Reservoir Storage Monitoring System (RSMS) Portal in New Delhi. This system aims to enhance the monitoring of live storage capacities of key reservoirs across India. The Central Water Commission (CWC) oversees the live storage capacity of 161 reservoirs, which collectively hold a capacity of 182.375 billion cubic metres (BCM). This volume represents approximately 70.74% of the total storage capacity developed in the country.

The RSMS Portal automates the generation of reports and visual data representations. Previously, data analysis involved manual processes to create graphs, charts, and tables for weekly bulletins. Now, users can simply input data, and the system will automatically generate the required outputs. This efficiency allows for timely updates and dissemination of information to stakeholders.
