Youth Co:Lab National Innovation Challenge 2024-2025

The Youth Co:Lab National Innovation Challenge for 2024-2025 has been launched by the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with Citi Foundation. This initiative aims to empower young entrepreneurs, including those with disabilities, to create innovative solutions that enhance access and well-being for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). The challenge is implemented in collaboration with AssisTech Foundation (ATF), an organisation focused on Assistive Technology (AT) innovation.

Background of Youth Co:Lab

Youth Co:Lab was co-created in 2017 by UNDP and Citi Foundation. Its primary goal is to empower youth and accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In India, it was launched in 2019 in partnership with AIM. Since then, it has hosted six national dialogues on youth social innovation, reaching over 19,000 participants and supporting around 2,600 youth-led initiatives.

Focus of the 2024-2025 Challenge

This year’s challenge prioritises startups led by and for persons with disabilities. It invites applications across various sub-categories, including: – Inclusive and Accessible Assistive Technology – Inclusive Educational Technology and Skilling Solutions – Accessible and Inclusive Care Models

Application Process and Support

Applications are currently open for young entrepreneurs and those with disabilities. The programme aims to support 30-35 early-stage startups through a springboard initiative. Selected startups will receive seed grants to scale their projects.

Role of AssisTech Foundation

AssisTech Foundation plays important role in this year’s challenge. It brings expertise in disability inclusion and Assistive Technology innovation. The foundation aims to leverage emerging technologies to improve the lives of PwDs. Innovations such as AI for visual impairments and AR/VR for autism learning are brought into light as potential solutions.

Key Stakeholders and Launch Event

The launch event featured senior leaders from AIM, UNDP India, ATF, and Citi Foundation. The ceremony included a partnership announcement and a live-streamed video presentation. The event emphasised the importance of youth as changemakers in society.

Future Outlook

The 2025 programme seeks to encourage a supportive ecosystem for young entrepreneurs addressing real-world challenges. It aims to create meaningful opportunities for disability inclusion through innovation. Young founders aged 18-32 are encouraged to apply and contribute to this transformative initiative.
