Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) and the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) have published their Animal discoveries 2019 and Plant discoveries 2019 that have listed 364 new species of animals and 180 species of plants. These animals and plants were discovered during the last year.

Animal Discoveries 2019
The animal discoveries is being ptublished by the ZSI since 2007. The recently published report that is Animal Discoveries 2019 have listed 368 faunal species as new to science. The report has also listed 116 species as being spotted for the first time. Some of the animal species discovered last year include:
- Rock-dwelling gecko.
- Cnemaspis anandani which is endemic to Western Ghats.
- A frog specie named Sphaerotheca magadha discovered in Jharkhand.
- Wild fern named Pteris subiriana found in Kerala,Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
Plant Discoveries 2019
The plant discoveries report by BSI is being published since 2007. This year the report have listed 180 new plant species and 73 species spotted for the first time in the year 2019.
Zoological Survey of India (ZSI)
It was founded on 1 July 1916. Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India founded the body and is the nodal head. The ZSI is a premier Indian organisation for zoological research and studies. It promotes survey, exploration and research of the fauna (Animals) in India.
Botanical Survey of India (BSI)
It was founded on February 13, 1890. It is a botanical garden located in Kolkata, West Bengal. The body was founded by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change’s organization. The body is involved to do survey, research and conservation of plant resources, flora (Plants) and the endangered species of India.
