3rd Tiger Conservation Conference Held in India

The Global Tiger Recovery Program (GTRP) recently marked its second edition in India, with the 3rd Stock Taking Conference on Tiger Conservation held in New Delhi. The highlight of the conference was measuring progress against the resolution adopted by the tiger range countries (TRCs) back in 2010 at St. Petersburg, Russia. This conference was facilitated by the National Tiger Conservation Authority, under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, in partnership with the Global Tiger Forum.

In November 2010, leaders from 13 TRCs made a commitment to enhance tiger conservation efforts at the International Tiger Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia. The resolution pledged to implement the Global Tiger Recovery Program, aimed at doubling the population of wild tigers from an approximate 3,200 to over 7,000 by 2022. These countries include Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

International Workshop by African – Asian Rural Development Organisation (AARDO)

A recent international workshop on fisheries and aquaculture has urged member countries of the African Asian Rural Development Organisation (AARDO) to foster regional cooperation and devise joint fisheries management plans.

AARDO, established in 1962 and headquartered in New Delhi, is an inter-governmental organisation that connects 33 members from Africa and Asia. Referred to as the Afro-Asian Rural Development Organization originally, AARDO represents one of the earliest examples of South-South cooperation in rural development.

This organisation primarily focuses on promoting coordinated efforts, sharing experiences, and taking collective action to propel rural development. Among its founding members, India makes the most substantial membership contribution.

Inauguration of Human Space Flight Center by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)

The launch of a new Human Space Flight Center in Bengaluru has been announced by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). This center will spearhead all ISRO’s human-centric programs, including the notable Gaganyaan mission, which aims to send three astronauts into earth orbit. The mission consists of two unmanned flights, slated for December 2020 and July 2021, followed by a manned flight anticipated by December 2021.
