Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative

The Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI) was launched by the Indian Government on 4th November 2019 at the East Asia Summit in Bangkok. It is an open, non-treaty based initiative aiming to promote regional security and stability.
The IPOI focuses various aspects of the maritime sector, like security, ecology, resource sharing, capacity building, disaster response, trade, maritime transport etc. It seeks collaboration amongst the Indo-Pacific countries, which is home to more than 64 per cent of the world population and account for 62 per cent of global GDP. Furthermore, around half of the global trade pass through the Indo-Pacific, making it extremely vital maritime pathway.
