UNDP, Indian Government Launch Innovation Lab for Sustainable Goals

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) recently launched its groundbreaking Accelerator Lab in India. This new initiative has been established in partnership with Atal Innovation Mission, the government’s innovation initiative. The lab aims to tackle some of the most pressing issues that are currently affecting India, by developing innovative solutions.

Objectives of the Accelerator Lab

The primary goal of this lab is to address and bring solutions to significant challenges such as air pollution, climate-resilient livelihoods, and sustainable water management. The broader objective is to accelerate progress towards achieving the ambitious Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the U.N. for 2030.

About the Accelerator Lab

A pioneering project by the UNDP, the State of Qatar, and the Federal Republic of Germany, the Accelerator Lab seeks innovative solutions to the multifaceted challenges of the 21st century. The Indian installment of the Accelerator Lab is now a part of a global network of 60 labs spanning across 78 countries. These labs work cohesively to identify, test and augment new solutions to combat global issues such as climate change and inequality. They work closely with local actors to identify grassroots solutions and validate their potential to fast-track development.

About the Atal Innovation Mission

The Atal Innovation Mission represents India’s national innovation initiative under NITI Aayog. Its main objective is to foster an environment conducive to innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.
