BSNL Rolls Out Nationwide VoWiFi

BSNL Rolls Out Nationwide VoWiFi

BSNL has launched Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi), also known as Wi-Fi Calling, across all telecom circles in India. The service allows customers to make and receive voice calls and messages over a Wi-Fi network using their existing mobile number and phone dialler. It is designed to improve connectivity in places where mobile signal is weak, such as homes, offices, basements, and remote locations.

What VoWiFi Means

VoWiFi is an IMS-based service. It supports seamless handover between Wi-Fi and mobile networks. This means a call can continue without interruption when a user moves between Wi-Fi and cellular coverage. No third-party application is needed. The service works through the phone’s built-in calling feature.

Benefits for Customers

  • It improves call quality in areas with poor mobile reception.
  • It is useful in rural and remote regions with limited network coverage.
  • It can work with BSNL Bharat Fiber or other broadband connections.
  • It helps reduce congestion on mobile networks.
  • It is offered free of cost, with no extra charge for Wi-Fi calls.

Network Modernisation Push

The nationwide rollout is part of BSNL’s network modernisation programme. It reflects the company’s focus on improving digital connectivity, especially in underserved areas. The service is supported on most modern smartphones. Users only need to enable Wi-Fi Calling in handset settings.

Eligibility and Support

BSNL customers across all telecom circles can use the service if their device supports VoWiFi and a stable Wi-Fi connection is available. For compatibility support, customers may contact the BSNL helpline at 18001503 or visit the nearest customer service centre.
