Aapda Mitra scheme
Aapda Mitra scheme is a central sector scheme implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to train community volunteers for disaster response activities. Launched in 2016, the scheme focuses on training 200 volunteers per each district. It will mainly target 30 most flood prone districts of 25 states in the country.
The purpose of the Aapda Mitra scheme is to provide skills and capacity building for community volunteers involved in responding to the immediate aftermath of disasters. This will train volunteers to undertake basic relief and rescue tasks during the crisis situations like floods, flash-floods and urban flooding.
