Amaravati Launches India’s First Quantum Test Facilities under Amaravati Quantum Valley project

Andhra Pradesh will host India’s first Quantum Test and Reference Facilities under the Amaravati Quantum Valley project. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate two quantum computer test beds, 1S and 1Q, on April 14 at SRM University, Amaravati, and Medha Towers, Gannavaram. The facilities use indigenous technology and operate near minus 273°C.

Quantum Test Beds and Technology

The 1S test bed at SRM University is based on superconducting technology, while the 1Q facility at Medha Towers is developed by Qubitekk. Both systems allow precise evaluation of quantum computing components at extremely low temperatures. These test beds enable testing and certification of quantum hardware, essential for developing reliable quantum systems.

Research and Industry Collaboration

The SRM University facility will be open-access, supporting researchers, students, and companies involved in quantum hardware development. The initiative aims to enhance research capabilities and foster innovation in quantum computing. The Quantum Reference Facility will serve as a certification centre for quantum devices.

Institutional Support and Participation

Institutions such as the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Indian Institute of Science, and Defence Research and Development Organisation have backed the project. The launch event will include scientists, IIT professors, quantum startups, and National Quantum Mission representatives. Over 150,000 students from Andhra Pradesh universities and colleges are expected to participate virtually.

Amaravati Quantum Valley project aims to position Andhra Pradesh as a national hub for next-generation computing technologies. The project aligns with World Quantum Day celebrations on April 14. It integrates academic research, industry collaboration, and technology development in quantum computing.

The National Quantum Mission aims to develop quantum computing, communication, and sensing technologies indigenously. It focuses on creating infrastructure, human resources, and industry-academia collaboration. The mission targets strategic advantages in cybersecurity, computing, and advanced materials.
