Andhra Pradesh Launches Energy Efficiency Programmes

Andhra Pradesh Launches Energy Efficiency Programmes

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has initiated three programmes aimed at enhancing energy efficiency, promoting environmental sustainability, and encouraging economic empowerment. These programmes are in collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture under the Ministry of Power.

URJAVEER Programme

The URJAVEER programme seeks to create a network of 100,000 individuals known as “Urjaveers.” These ambassadors will promote energy-efficient appliances through affiliate marketing on EESLmart.in. Any Indian citizen aged 18 and above can register. Participants will undergo a short training on energy efficiency. They will promote products such as BEE 5-star LED bulbs and induction cooktops using unique QR codes. This initiative encourages community engagement while supporting energy savings.

Distribution of Energy-Efficient Appliances

The second initiative targets economically vulnerable households under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). EESL, in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh State Housing Company Ltd, will distribute energy-efficient appliances. This includes 6 lakh LED bulbs, 3 lakh LED battens, and 3 lakh five-star-rated BLDC fans. Each beneficiary household will receive a specific quantity of these items. This initiative aims to make sustainable living accessible and enhance energy consciousness among the public.

National Efficiency Cooking Programme

The National Efficiency Cooking Programme (NECP) focuses on promoting electric cooking solutions in the state. As part of this initiative, EESL Induction Cooktops were distributed to selected Anganwadi Centres. The aim is to improve health and safety standards in cooking practices. This programme marks the importance of safe cooking methods while reducing energy consumption.

Government Support and Impact

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed strong support for these initiatives. He noted the rapid registration for the URJAVEER programme, indicating public interest. The Chief Minister also announced that 150,000 PMAY beneficiaries would receive energy-efficient appliances at no cost. This move is expected to yield long-term energy savings and financial benefits for households.

Role of EESL

EESL plays important role in implementing these energy efficiency projects. Established by the Government of India, it aims to facilitate the adoption of energy-efficient technologies across the country. The collaborative approach with state governments like Andhra Pradesh is vital for achieving national energy goals.

Future Prospects

These programmes signify a commitment to sustainable development in Andhra Pradesh. They aim to empower individuals, support vulnerable communities, and promote environmentally friendly practices. Continued monitoring and evaluation will be essential to measure their success and impact.
