The International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC), also known as ‘Bharat Mandapam,’ was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi. This national initiative aims to modernize and upgrade the outdated facilities at Pragati Maidan, transforming it into a comprehensive and contemporary venue for exhibitions and conventions.

A Vision for the Future

The IECC project is a testament to India’s vision for the future. With an investment of about Rs 2700 crores, the government embarked on this national project to provide world-class facilities for national and international events. The center seeks to showcase India’s capabilities and new energy, projecting the country’s grandeur and willpower on the global stage.

Inspiration from History

The convention center derives its name, ‘Bharat Mandapam,’ from the historical ‘Anubhava Mandapam’ of Bhagwan Basaveshwara. Anubhava Mantapa was an academy of saints and philosophers of the ‘Lingayath’s’ faith in the 12th century, founded by Basava. The name ‘Bharat Mandapam’ is a tribute to the tradition of debate and expression in India, symbolizing the essence of the nation’s cultural heritage.

A Remarkable naming Ceremony

The naming ceremony of ‘Bharat Mandapam’ was a unique and innovative event. It was conducted using drones, adding a touch of modernity to the convention center’s identity. The Prime Minister himself unveiled the name, reinforcing the center’s connection with India’s aspirations for progress and growth.

A Gift on a Momentous Occasion

As India celebrated its 75th anniversary of Independence, ‘Bharat Mandapam’ was gifted to the nation. The Convention Centre stands as a symbol of India’s progress, highlighting its achievements and advancements on the world stage. The upcoming G20 Summit hosted at the center will provide a platform for India to demonstrate its growing stature and influence in global affairs.

Boosting India’s Global Presence

‘Bharat Mandapam’ serves as a significant step towards enhancing India’s global presence. With world-class facilities, the center will attract exhibitors from around the world and boost conference tourism in India. It will act as a catalyst in transforming the country into a preferred destination for international events, conferences, and exhibitions.

Empowering Atmanirbhar Bharat

The Convention Centre aligns with the government’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India). It will serve as a platform to showcase the country’s startups, artists, actors, and handicraft artisans, fostering a spirit of self-sufficiency and promoting indigenous products and talents on a global scale.

A Tribute to the Brave

During the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War. This solemn occasion served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers to protect the country’s sovereignty and uphold its values.

A 21st-Century Hub for Global Events

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of having a world-class convention center suitable for the demands of the 21st century. ‘Bharat Mandapam’ is designed to provide state-of-the-art facilities and amenities, making it an ideal venue for hosting international events, conferences, and exhibitions.
