Bagram Airfield or the Bagram Air Base is the US’ largest military base in Afghanistan, located close to the ancient city of Bagra. The airfield is of strategic importance, so much so that it was the epicentre of the US’ war against Taliban and the al-Qaeda.
The American soldiers left this military complex at night after nearly two decades without notifying the base’s new Afghan commander. Their withdrawal lacked clear transition plan and thus created a security vacuum in the region. The US is expected to completely withdraw from Afghanistan by the end of next month.
