Cabinet Approves Green Energy Corridor Project in Ladakh

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given the green light to the Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II – Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS), a 13 GW Renewable Energy Project slated for Ladakh. This initiative aims to be operational by FY 2029-30 and will be managed by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID).

Green Energy Corridor: A Path towards Renewable Energy

This groundbreaking project is geared towards achieving an ambitious target of 500 GW of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuels by 2030. By reducing carbon emissions, it seeks to promote ecologically sustainable growth.

The initiative is expected to generate a considerable amount of both direct and indirect employment opportunities, with the Ladakh region being a key beneficiary. It’s worth noting that this project is an addition to the Intra-State Transmission System Green Energy Corridor Phase-II (InSTS GEC-II), which is already in progress in several states. The InSTS GEC-II focuses on grid integration and power evacuation of approximately 20GW of Renewable Energy (RE) power and is estimated to be completed by 2026.

IBM’s Commitment to Boosting India’s Technological Advancements

In another development, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) has entered into three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with entities associated with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). This strategic partnership is aimed at spurring innovation in Artificial Intelligence, Semiconductor technology, and quantum technology in India.

IBM’s collaborations are tailored towards fast-tracking India’s national strategy for AI, strengthening self-sufficiency in semiconductor technology, and furthering the National Quantum Mission.

Establishing National AI Innovation Platform (AIIP)

Part of IBM’s strategy involves setting up a National AI Innovation Platform (AIIP) to nurture AI skills and development. This will significantly bolster the country’s capacity to maximize the potential of artificial intelligence in different sectors.

Propelling Innovations in Semiconductor Technologies

In addition to AI, a semiconductor research center is also part of IBM’s collaborative efforts. With the aim of promoting innovation in semiconductor technologies, these partnerships are expected to contribute significantly to India’s technological self-sufficiency.

These developments signal a promising future for renewable energy and technological advancement in India. With the Green Energy Corridor and IBM’s strategic collaborations, India is clearly making strides towards a greener and technologically advanced future.
