Chaff is an electronic countermeasure technology used by defense forces to protect their naval ships, aircraft and other sensitive assets from radar and radio frequency guiding mechanisms of the enemy missiles. When the chaff is deployed into the air, it is reflected as multiple targets for the adversary?s missile guidance systems. This misleads the enemy radars or deflects adversary missiles.
The DRDO has developed an advanced chaff technology to protect the IAF?s fighter aircraft from adversary radar threats. It has been given to the industry for the mass production required to meet the demands of the IAF.
