Cheriyal scroll painting, a vibrant art form from Telangana, will be gifted to global leaders’ spouses at the upcoming G20 Summit. This traditional art, an offshoot of Nakashi art, is renowned for its rich local motifs. Cheriyal paintings, primarily produced in Hyderabad, depict Indian mythological narratives, rural life, and folk stories. They are characterized by vivid primary colors, particularly red backgrounds, and are often accompanied by music and dance performances. Originally created as long vertical scrolls, modern adaptations include smaller, single-picture versions for wall decorations. Cheriyal painting holds a Geographical Indication (GI) tag since 2007.
