DoPT to Enhance iGOT Program for Government Training

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) recently hosted a conference, aiming to discuss the training needs of government officers at different hierarchical levels. As a crucial part of the government, DoPT is tasked with creating policies designed to build capacity and strengthen human resources within the government.

Conferencing for Capacity Building

The conference’s primary focus was on enhancing the capability of government functionaries. All participants come from a variety of levels in the hierarchy. The objective was to identify their unique training needs and develop appropriate programs to fill gaps in their skills and knowledge. By doing this, the DoPT works towards improving the effectiveness and efficiency of public services.

Exploring DoPT’s Role

DoPT’s role in training Government officials cannot be overstated. The department is charged with the responsibility of designing strategies to build and strengthen human resources within government institutions. Integrated Government Online Training (iGOT) Programme

The conference also highlighted a key decision to expand the reach and coverage of the Integrated Government Online Training (iGOT) programme. Launched in December 2018, iGOT aims to supplement and enhance the existing training structure by introducing online module-based training. This approach ensures that training is conveniently accessible to government officers at any time and location.

The Objective of iGOT 2.0

During the conference, a consultation paper called ‘Approach to Strategy and Implementation of iGOT 2.0’ was released. This version of iGOT is expected to play a significant role in achieving a comprehensive and systematic capacity building initiative. It will help civil servants address current challenges such as lack of political will, communication deficiencies, coherence, and implementation issues, among others.

Digital Capacity-Building Framework

In addition to exploring the scope of iGOT, participants were familiarized with a new digital capacity-building framework. Cadre Controlling Authorities (CCAs) and Central Training Institutes (CTIs) are expected to use this new model to deliver online content for capacity building. This change is seen as an essential stride in modernizing government services and improving their efficiency.

The conference organized by the DoPT was an important step towards identifying and addressing the training needs of government functionaries. By peering into aspects such as online training and digital capacity building, the department is steadily working to improve public services offered by the government. With this approach, the government’s human resources can only get stronger, enhancing the delivery of quality public services.
