Draft National Strategy and Roadmap for Medical and Wellness Tourism put forth by the Union Ministry of Tourism aims to realise the full economic potential of the medical tourism. Medical tourism is a term used to describe the practice of travelling to abroad for accessing healthcare. It is usually sought by people requiring specialised surgeries and complicated medical procedures.

India currently has nearly all types of healthcare services, including psychiatry, alternative treatments, and convalescent care. It is one of the few countries that provide these services at affordable rates with minimal waiting time and with latest medical technologies and accreditations.
