e-Chhawani portal

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh launched the e-Chhawani Portal. The portal provides digital municipal services to residents of 62 cantonment boards nationwide. Cantonment residents have access to basic government services such as lease renewals, birth and death certificate applications, water and sewage connections, and trade licenses. Developed jointly by eGov Foundation, NIC, Directorate General Defense Estates and BEL.

Objective of launching this portal

With the launch of this portal, residents of the state districts are now able to file civil complaints. The portal also helps you resolve complaints related to citizen issues from home. This portal works to improve the system and improve the quality of life of people. This project was launched with the aim of providing online community services to around 20 lakh citizens. Services are provided via 62 cantonment boards via a central multi-tenancy platform. You can use the portal to submit an online application for extension of your rental agreement and online registration for birth and death. Online application for water and sewage connections is also easier.

Significance of the portal

The government strives to promote the socio-economic development of the country by giving the people maximum opportunities and making the administration efficient and transparent. The government strives to make the system citizen-friendly, make people’s lives easier, and provide services that make work easier. It aims to change the way the legislature works in line with the vision of “New India.” The portal ensures the effectiveness and transparency of the state legislature’s profit sharing system. India has become a global power and opportunity due to its strong presence in business, defense, IT, trade, investment and agriculture.

What are Cantonment Boards?

The cantonment board is a body of civil administration. It is subordinate to the Indian Ministry of Defense. The Board of Directors consists of members elected and nominated ex officio in accordance with the Cantonments Act of 2006. Board members are elected for five years. The board consists of eight elected members and three nominated military personnel. It also consists of three ex officio members: a station commander, a garrison engineer, a representative of a district judge and a chief medical officer.
