E- Sanjeevani Initiative recorded 5 lakh teleconsultations

The eSanjeevani telemedicine initiative by the Union Health Ministry recently recorded the completion of 5 lakh teleconsultations. The government have stated that last one lakh tele consultations have been completed just 17 days. Top 3 states with highest teleconsultations are Tamil Nadu (1,69,977) Uttar Pradesh (1,34,992) and Himachal Pradesh (39,326). 

Highlights

  • The number of teleconsultations on eSanjeevani has been recorded as 8,000 consultations per day.
  • Currently, 26 states are using two versions of eSanjeevani’s telemedicine namely, eSanjeevani OPD for patient to Doctor consultation and eSanjeevani AB-HWC for doctor to doctor consultation.

eSanjeevani OPD

The initiative was rolled out on April 13, 2020. It was launched during the lockdown amid the Corona pandemic when the OPDs were closed across India. The platform already running among the race of being world’s largest telemedicine platform. eSanjeevani OPD have the benefit of accessing services directly from homes in the current situation where social distancing is the norm. The tele-OPD has been accepted evenly by both the patients and the doctors. Around 100 telemedicine practitioners have already completed around 1,000 teleconsultations. As per the government report,  20% of the patients have used eSanjeevani services for consultation more than once.

eSanjeevani AB-HWC

This telemedicine service was launched by the union health ministry.  The service was launched in November 2019, under the Ayushman Bharat Health Wellness Centre (AB-HWC). The ministry have a plan to launch and implement the service at 1,50,000 Health and Wellness centres in collaboration with the medical colleges functioning under the Union Government. Presently, eSanjeevani AB-HWC is functional at 4,000 Health and Wellness Centres.
