India’s Union Minister for Forests, Environment, Climate Change, and Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, has recently inaugurated the new headquarters of the Lakshadweep forest department, named Atal Paryavaran Bhavan. Remarkably, the construction of this landmark building was completed within a record time of three years, demonstrating the project’s efficient execution.
Boosting Tourism and Employment
During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Javadekar emphasized the importance of balancing environmental conservation with economic development. He pointed out that environmental clearances have been granted for various tourism projects across three islands in Lakshadweep as part of the initiatives under the NITI Aayog’s scheme. These projects are expected to significantly contribute to the island’s growth by creating additional employment opportunities for the local population, thereby improving their economic status while ensuring that the islands’ pristine beauty and security are maintained.
Publication of Faunal Diversity Book
In conjunction with the inauguration of Atal Paryavaran Bhavan, Minister Javadekar unveiled a book titled “Faunal Diversity of Biogeographic Zones: Coasts of India.” The publication is poised to serve as a valuable resource for researchers, conservationists, and policy-makers interested in the rich faunal diversity found along India’s extensive coastline. Establishment of Centre for Wetland Conservation and Management
Coinciding with World Wetland Day on February 2nd, the announcement of the establishment of a Centre for Wetland Conservation and Management (CWCM) was made.
