Eswatini is the official name of the landlocked nation in southern Africa. It was previously known as Swaziland (till 2018). The name ‘Eswatini’ in Swasi language means ‘land of the Swasis’. The name change was announced during the country’s celebration of 50 years of independence from British rule. Over the years, several African nations have changed their names following decolonisation- eg: Malawi, Republic of Botswana, Burkina Faso and Ghana, etc.
