GeM
Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is a digital portal launched by the Commerce Ministry to ensure transparent procurement by the government from the market. It is under the control of GeM Special Purpose Vehicle, which is fully owned by the Central Government.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal had recently called for the portal’s expansion to widen its scope and to include more participants, goods and services. He also called for integration of GeM with the Railway e-procurement system so as to ensure the efficient utilisation of the public finance. This integration may pave way for Rs.50,000 crore worth of procurement each year.
