Gender self-identification

Gender self-identification means that the individuals are allowed to legally identify with the gender of their choice through a simple declaration without facing medical tests. It has been demanded by trans-right groups across the world to address the issue of discrimination. This concept has been a subject of debate, with several groups opposing as such rights may pose threat to women or force gay teenagers to undergo hormone therapy and surgeries.

The Spanish government has introduced a draft legislation that promoted gender self-identification by allowing people above the age of 14 to legally change their gender without medical diagnosis or hormone therapy.
