Govt- IITB to Form Centre of Excellence in Gaming

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has decided to set up a Centre of Excellence in gaming and other related areas. It will be set in collaboration with IIT Bombay.

  • It was informed by the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar.
  • The minister informed about the government’s decision while addressing the virtual exhibition and prize announcement of the “Khel Khel Mein” competition.
  • It was a pan-Maharashtra toy/game project design competition.
  • The minister informed that the Centre is at an advanced stage of preparation and will come into effect as the new session begins in 2021.
  • PM Modi is determined towards preserving and perpetuating Indian values, cultural ethos, and heritage, and is putting in the immense effort so that the children and youth of our country are made aware of our rich culture and tradition. These values can also be introduced through modern technology.
  • Many games played by children are explicit, violent, addictive, and tend to create a complex in the mind of children. However, criticizing these games is not any solution.
  • The solution is to create our own games and apps in line with #MakeInIndia for the world.

First India Toy Fair

Recently, PM Modi also inaugurated the first India Toy Fair. It is a step for boosting toy manufacturing in the country. Over 1000 exhibitors from across 30 States and UTs are displaying their products in e-commerce enabled virtual exhibitions.
