Haiku Stairs

Haiku Stairs, located in Hawaii, was built by the US Navy in the 1940s. Its 3,933 steps winds through a 2,800 foot mountain in Kaneohe. Also known as the “Stairway to Heaven”, it was permanently closed down to the public in 1987 because of the dangers posed by it.
These iconic stairs will likely be removed next year. Despite being closed for nearly three decades, it became infamous for trespassing and accidents over the years. The city has spent a large amount of money to remodel the stairs and increase the security of the structure. The city will be allocating $1 million to remove the stairs.
