Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina met in a virtual bilateral summit on December 17, 2020. Both the leaders held a comprehensive discussion of the bilateral relationship.

- The leaders discussed to strengthen the cooperation between India and Bangladesh in the post-COVID-19 era.
- During the summit, Chilahati-Haldibari rail link, a pre-1965 connectivity line was also inaugurated.
- PM Modi further assured that; the Bangladesh is a significant pillar of ‘Neighbourhood First’ Policy of India. PM Modi also highlighted that, strengthening ties with Bangladesh is always a priority of the current government.
- Modi further stated that, both the countries has maintained good cooperation in the COVID-19 vaccine area and while working with the health professionals.
- Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, also appreciated PM Modi for the efforts the government is making to counter the COVID-19 pandemic.
- She also paid homage to the 3 million martyrs and members of the Indian armed forces who lost their lives in the war of 1971.
- During the summit, both the leaders inaugurated the Bangabandhu-Bapu digital exhibition. It is the digital exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
India Bangladesh Relation
India and Bangladesh are involved in regular exchanges. Recently, in October 2019, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made her official visit to India. PM Modi also delivered a video message on the occasion of Mujib Borsho in March 2020. Bangladesh has also invited Prime Minister Modi to jointly celebrate the 50th Independence Day of the on March 26, 2021. On the occasion, sixth rail route from Dhaka to Siliguri might be flagged off.
