Indian Air Force Tests Longer-Range Air-Launched BrahMos Cruise Missile

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully launching the air-launched version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in the Bay of Bengal. This successful test involved firing the missile from a Sukhoi fighter jet, equipped with the capability to launch BrahMos cruise missiles designed to strike distant enemy targets.

Extended Range Capability

According to defense officials, the BrahMos air-launched missile was fired from a Su-30MKI fighter jet in recent days. The aircraft took off with the missile from a southern peninsula air base and traveled over 1,500 kilometers to successfully strike a target at an extended range compared to previous tests.

A Unique Collaboration

The missile in question is the longer-range version of the supersonic weapon system, marking a unique collaboration between India and the Russian industry. This partnership has resulted in a formidable asset for India’s defense capabilities.

Successful Trials and Export Initiatives

In addition to this achievement, the Indian Air Force recently conducted two successful trials of the land attack missile system, demonstrating pinpoint accuracy in striking their intended targets. India is also actively exporting these advanced missiles to friendly nations, including the Philippines, where they will be deployed for coastal defense purposes.

Global Export Ambitions

Furthermore, the BrahMos Aerospace corporation is exploring opportunities to expand missile exports to additional countries, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious export targets. This development showcases India’s commitment to both bolstering its own defense capabilities and contributing to international security through arms exports.
