In a solemn ceremony held at INS Hansa, Dabolim in Goa, the Indian Navy bid farewell to the IL-38 Sea Dragon long-range maritime patrol aircraft, marking the end of its illustrious 46-year service to the nation.

Decommissioning Ceremony

The decommissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday, was attended by Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, veteran officers, sailors of the IL-38 squadron, and dignitaries, along with their families. It was an occasion to reflect on the remarkable service history of this aircraft.

Legacy of INAS 315

INAS 315, the squadron associated with the IL-38 Sea Dragon, was commissioned on October 1, 1977. The induction of the IL-38 aircraft marked a significant milestone, ushering in a modern era of airborne long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare in the Indian Navy. Over the years, this squadron has played a crucial role in enhancing maritime security.

The IL-38 Sea Dragon, known as the “Winged Stallion” in the squadron’s crest, has lived up to its motto, “Victory is my Profession.” With its exceptional capabilities, striking power, and extensive operational range, it has served as a formidable force multiplier.
