As the Indian Prime Minister recently unveiled the initial phase of the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), named ‘Yashobhoomi’, there’s much to discuss. Located in Dwarka, New Delhi, this expansive project demonstrates India’s commitment to sustainability, transparency, and preservation. Furthermore, a new approach to Supreme Court Judge appointments promises increased clarity, while Hyderabad Liberation Day and International Coastal Clean-up Day underline the importance of history and environmental advocacy.

Occupying over 8.9 lakh square metres, with a build-up area exceeding 1.8 lakh square meters, Yashobhoomi joins the ranks of the world’s largest Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) facilities. Chief Justice Initiates Transparency in SC Judge Appointments
The Chief Justice of India (CJI) recently announced a plan to augment openness in the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court. The objective is to ensure potential appointees are evaluated impartially. A team of scholars, interns, and law researchers is tasked with assessing the top 50 judges under consideration for appointments to the Supreme Court. Maintaining confidentiality, the selection criteria will promote transparency. These appointments will be based on several variables, including seniority, regional representation, and merit.
Hyderabad Liberation Day: A Symbolic Union
The 17th of September 2022 was marked to be celebrated annually as Hyderabad Liberation Day. This day commemorates the integration of the Hyderabad State, previously under Nizam rule, with the Indian Union. The Indian Army intervened in the state under Operation Polo in September 1948, to prevent regional instability and bring Hyderabad into India. The Nizam, despite criticism and protests, withdrew complaints to the United Nations and thus facilitated this union without further foreign involvement.
International Coastal Clean-up Day, 2023: A Salute to Sustainability
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) Day on 16th September 2023, an initiative that has taken place annually since 2006, under the aegis of UNEP and South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP). Maharashtra saw the highest volunteer turnout, followed by Tamil Nadu. Established in 1978, the ICG serves as an independent Armed force of India, operating under the Ministry of Defence. As the 4th largest Coast Guard in the world, it continues to advocate for environmental preservation.
