A rare Indian spot-billed duck with pale plumage was recently spotted at Manickapuram tank in Tiruppur district, Tamil Nadu. The Indian spot-billed duck, scientifically known as Anas poecilorhyncha, is a non-migratory breeding duck native to the Indian subcontinent. It is characterized by a red spot at the base of its bill, found in the mainland Indian population. These ducks are residents in freshwater wetlands throughout Pakistan and India, preferring medium-sized wetlands with vegetation cover. They have distinct features including a scaly patterned body, green speculum, and bright orange feet. Their diet primarily consists of grasses and vegetation.
