The Indian Railway (IR) is making headlines with the unveiling of a first-of-its-kind movable freshwater tunnel aquarium at the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station, also widely recognized as the Bengaluru City Railway Station. This new addition not only offers a unique attraction for travellers, but it also marks a milestone as the first railway station in India to house such an innovative facility.
Partnership Development and Concept
This remarkable project has been brought to life by the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC) in joint effort with the HNi Aquatic Kingdom. The two entities have collaborated to create an aquatic park reminiscent of the Amazon River located in South America. The result is an impressive 12-feet long aquatic kingdom, showcasing a blend of terrestrial and marine life in a paludarium setting.
Aquatic Life and Design
Travellers and visitors alike can expect to experience a rich array of flora and fauna. The aquarium is a haven for diverse aquatic animals such as alligator gar, sharks, lobsters, stingrays, snails, and shrimps. Adding to its appeal, the aquarium is graced with natural rocks and driftwood pieces, enhanced further with artificial coral rocks.
These elements, combined, provide an authentic touch to the underwater environment, presenting a captivating sight that allows a glimpse into the intriguing world of aquatic life.
Project Investment and Purpose
The development of this unique project was financed at a cost of Rs 1.2 crore, predominantly aimed at enriching the passenger experience at the station. More than a leisure facility, the aquarium also serves as a strategic approach to improving revenue streams for the Indian Railway.
Educational Benefits
On top of its entertainment value, the movable freshwater tunnel aquarium also holds educational significance. It provides first-hand experience into a life-sized kingdom of fishes and other aquatic creatures. Visitors are offered an opportunity to observe and learn about various aquatic species, their habitats, and behaviors. This interactive experience serves an educational purpose that can engage and inform travellers while they wait for their train.
The introduction of the movable freshwater tunnel aquarium at the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station is not just an infrastructural feat but marks a significant step towards enhancing passengers’ journey and learning experiences. It testifies to Indian Railway’s commitment towards continuous innovation and development in order to deliver an improved travelling environment for passengers.
