INS Airavat

INS Airavat is the third Shardul-class amphibious warfare vessel belonging to the Indian Navy. The vessel was commissioned in 2009 at the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam. The ship is named after the mount of God Indra – the elephant Airavata, which found mention in the Rigveda.
INS Airavat reached Sattahip, Thailand as part of the on-going Mission SAGAR. The ship delivered 300 oxygen concentrators to help Thailand Government to respond to the raging COVID-19 pandemic. In the current deployment under Mission SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), the ship delivered COVID-19 relief materials to Indonesia and Vietnam before reaching Thailand.
