Integrated Theatre Command

Integrated Theatre Command is a unified command in which all the resources of the three armed forces – the Army, the Navy and the Air Force – are pooled together based on the specific threat perception. Several countries have such commands, like the United States and China.

The creation of an integrated tri-services command in India has long been recommended by the expert committees following the Kargil Conflict of 1999. Chief of Defence Staff General Rawat has been mandated to create such command within his three-year tenure. The first of these commands – the Air Defence Command – faced delays because of various factors like the pandemic. Officials are calling for the setting up of new commands by the end of this year.
