International Anti Corruption Day: CBI organises Investiture ceremony
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) organised an Investiture ceremony in New Delhi on the occasion of International Anti Corruption Day which is observed on December 9.
International Anti Corruption Day
International Anti-Corruption Day is observed on December 9 every year on the birthday of Mlondi Caluza. The day is observed in the backdrop of passage of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. This convention against corruption was passed on October 31, 2003. It raise the public awareness for anti-corruption.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) also designated December 9 as International Anti-Corruption Day with an objective of making people aware about corruption and how it affects them. This Convention came into effect in December 2005.
International Anti Corruption day 2020
The day is observed this year under the theme: Recover with Integrity. This theme has been selected as the world is recovering from the pandemic. The theme emphasizes in the fact that, “inclusive COVID-19 recovery can only be achieved with integrity.” This year the worldwide campaign against corruption focuses on “mitigating corruption and enhancing accountability in the public health sector. Sports will also be the part of campaign so as to ensure sports remains a force for development and peace.
United Nations Convention Against Corruption
This is the universal legally binding anti-corruption instrument. The convention covers five main areas namely- international cooperation, criminalisation & law enforcement, asset recovery, technical assistance, preventive measures, and information exchange.
Other Campaign
The “Your NO Counts” campaign was also started by the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. This campaign marks the International Anti-Corruption Day and raise the awareness about corruption and suggest measures to fight it.
