Japan’s Largest Wildfire in Decades

Japan is currently facing its most wildfire in decades. The blaze, centred in Ofunato on the northeast coast, has prompted urgent evacuations and widespread destruction. As of now, approximately 2,100 hectares have been scorched, leading to the damage or destruction of 84 homes. The situation has forced over 1,200 residents into temporary shelters, while others have sought refuge with family and friends. Tragically, one fatality has been reported. This wildfire marks the largest in Japan since 1975.

Causes of the Wildfire
