Kittur Karnataka

The region of Kittur Karnataka consists of Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Dharwad, Bagalkote. Gadag and Haveri districts of Karnataka. Earlier, this region was kniown as the Mumbai Karnataka region and in the month of November 2021, the government of Karnataka renamed the Mumbai Karnataka region as the Kittur Karnataka region.

Highlights

The area was renamed by the Karnataka State Government to meet the long-standing demands of the local people. Demand was raised primarily by the pro Kannada organization. The name Kittur comes from the historic talc in the district of Belagavi. The Kittur region was ruled by the Maratha Empire in the 18th century. After the Third Anglo-Marathi War, it became the suzerain of England. Later it was placed under the control of Mallasaraja. Mallasaraja and his son who was the heir to the throne were killed by an Englishman. Later, his wife Rani Chennama ruled Kittur in the 19th century and adopted a boy who was announced by her as the heir to the throne. The British did not agree with this under the doctrine of lapse. According to the doctrine of lapse, a kingdom without a king or heir to the throne of kinship is under the direct control of Britain. And adoption is not allowed. She fought the British Army for the implementation of the Doctrine of Lapse.

In the year 2019, the then Karnataka government renamed the region of Hyderabad Karnataka as the region of Kalyana Karnataka. This region consists of Raichur, Bidar, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Bellary, Vijayanagara and Koppal.
