Draft Lakshadweep Development Authority Regulation 2021 (LDAR)
The Lakshadweep Development Authority (LDA) was recently created and they have been given powers such as the eviction of land owners. This is facing criticism by the people of the Union Territory as they think LDA was created and pushed by the real estate lobby against the will of the islanders. Under the LDAR authorities have been provided extensive power to prepare comprehensive development plans for any area of the island and can relocate or remove people living in the UT. The people can even be moved from their properties just for the purpose of developmental activity and town planning. Any land can be picked by the government of Lakshadweep and the owners won’t be able to have any say on it.
