The “Let Immigrants Kickstart Employment (LIKE) Act” was introduced at the US Congress to boost domestic employment opportunities by encouraging immigrants to set up venture capital-backed startup companies. It allows immigrants to start their own ventures and eventually a permanent residency.
At least 25 countries have laws providing for a startup visa. Some of these include Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany and Sweden. About 50 per cent of the current high growth companies are founded by immigrants or by a first generation American. These companies provide jobs to around 1.9 million people.
