M-STrIPES App Boosts Poacher Arrests in Tiger Reserves

Over the last year, the arrest rate of poachers by forest officials has risen significantly. A mobile application, known as M-STrIPES, has been instrumental in this anti-poaching success. Designed for the surveillance and patrolling of tiger-populated regions, this application has improved forest management and conservation efforts.

About M-STrIPES

M-STrIPES, or Monitoring System For Tigers-Intensive Protection and Ecological Status, is an application developed collaboratively by the National Tiger Conservation Authority and the Wildlife Institute of India in 2010. Its primary function is to equip patrol teams with a tool that makes monitoring suspicious activities more efficient. This also aids the mapping of patrol locations, routes, and timing details of the forest officials. The application was used extensively during the All India-Tiger Estimation task.
