Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) has secured a significant contract from the Ministry of Defence worth Rs 2,310 crore to build a specialized training ship for the Indian Coast Guard. This training vessel will play a crucial role in enhancing the training of Coast Guard officers and preparing them for the diverse challenges they may face in safeguarding our coasts and offshore assets.
Cutting-Edge Technology and Surveillance
The training ship, being developed by MDL, will be equipped with advanced, state-of-the-art surveillance and monitoring systems. This technology will provide invaluable experience to Indian Coast Guard cadets, helping them gain deep insights into the complexities of maritime security.
Supporting Indigenous Manufacturers
A noteworthy aspect of this project is the emphasis on utilizing equipment and systems from indigenous manufacturers, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This initiative not only promotes the “Make in India” concept but also fosters job opportunities for Indian youth over a three-year period.
Strengthening Maritime Capabilities
In addition to its primary role in training, the project is expected to bolster India’s shipbuilding capabilities. It aligns with the goal of strengthening the country’s maritime economic potential. This contract signifies a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in defense and maritime sectors.
