Minervarya Pentali

Minervarya Pentali is newly discovered frog species named after Prof. Deepak Pental, the former vice chancellor of Delhi University and renowned plant geneticist. The new species was discovered in Western Ghats during a comprehensive study on a group of Indian frogs belonging to genus Minervarya.
The new species are endemic to the southern Western Ghats. These frogs were found on wayside vegetation in the southern states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu while conducting surveys during the monsoon season. These species are among the smallest of the Minervaryan frogs. They have distinctive DNA and calling pattern.
