The Ministry of Labour and Employment has taken a new initiative to offer free online career skills training. The training is being provided through the National Career Service (NCS) project specifically for those job-seekers who have registered with the service. The intention of this training is to equip job-seekers with valuable skills that are in high demand within the industry, such as personality development, corporate etiquette, improving interpersonal skills, and making impactful presentations. Learning modules for this service are accessible in both Hindi and English via the NCS portal. The esteemed Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), through its unit TCS iON, is a proud partner in launching this course.
The Launch: A Five Year Mission Mode Project
The project was officially launched by the Prime Minister on July 20, 2015. It falls under the larger e-governance plan and aims to provide a comprehensive solution to all employment and career-related concerns faced by Indian citizens. Directorate General of Employment, Ministry of Labour & Employment, is responsible for implementing this vast project.
The Three Pillars
The NCS project aims to make its services accessible to the entire population through three key aspects. These include a thoughtfully designed ICT-based portal which is NCS portal, establishing Model Career Centers across the country, and ensuring cohesion with all states through employment exchanges.
Services Offered
A variety of services are offered via the centralized digital portal. These services include job search capabilities, job matching, access to rich career-oriented content, career counseling, and information about Job Fairs. Additionally, services of local service providers like drivers, plumbers, etc., and other specific services are available for households. The portal also facilitates the registration process of various stakeholders such as Job Seekers, Employers, Skill Providers, Career Counsellors, Local Service Providers (LSP’s), Career Centers, Placement Organisations, Households for availing the services of the LSP’s, and Government Departments.
Registration on the Portal
The NCS does not charge any fees for registration or use of its services. To date, the portal has an impressive registration count of about 1 crore job seekers and 54,000 employers.
Partnership with TCS iON
The course contributing to this great initiative has been launched in partnership with TCS iON, a branch of Tata Consultancy Services. This collaboration seeks to utilize the expertise of TCS in digitizing education and work to bring about effective growth and development opportunities.
Overall, the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing workforce skills underlines its dedicated approach to improving employment prospects within the country.
