Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) is a central government scheme that was launched in 1993. It enables the members of the parliament (MPs) to recommend the developmental works with budget of Rs.5 crore annually in their respective constituencies. These works must ensure durable community assets like schools, roads etc. Recommendations for non-durable assets can be made based on specified conditions. Union Education Minister donated Rs.1.5 crore from MPLAD for purchasing medical equipment in Haridwar.
