National Doctors’ Day

National Doctors’ Day is observed annually by the Indian Medical Association on June 1 to commemorate the birth and death anniversary of the former Bengal Chief Minister Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. This day honours all doctors and healthcare workers involved in the saving lives and promoting health.

Observed since 1991, this day honours Dr Roy, who served in the medical field and established medical institutes like Jadavpur T.B. Hospital, Chittaranjan Seva Sadan, Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital etc., for women and children. He is considered as the first medical consultant in the Indian subcontinent.
